Trip Budget Calculator: Total Cost and Daily Budget

Adds your own cost estimates plus a contingency to give a trip total, cost per person, cost per day and each category's share.

Free · runs in your browser · nothing is sent anywhere

Adds your own estimates for flights, lodging, food, transport, activities, insurance and visas, plus a contingency, into a trip total, a cost per person and a cost per day. It helps you decide whether to shorten the trip or change base. To cut the big items, see flight hunting and budget travel.

How it works

  1. Enter your currency and use it for every amount; nothing is converted.
  2. Set travellers, trip days and the nights you pay for lodging.
  3. Fill in flights, food, transport, activities, insurance and visas per person, and lodging per night for the whole group.
  4. Add a contingency percentage and, if you have one, a total cap.

Subtotal = (Flights × Travellers) + (Lodging per night × Nights) + (Food × Travellers × Days) + (Local transport × Travellers × Days) + (Activities × Travellers) + (Insurance × Travellers) + (Visas × Travellers); Total = Subtotal + Subtotal × Contingency % / 100; Per person = Total / Travellers; Per day = Total / Days

It only adds what you type in. Prices and fees change, so check official sources before booking; for tax or insurance questions, ask a professional.

Frequently asked questions

How much contingency should I add?

There is no correct figure. 10% is a common starting point for a simple, pre-booked trip; raise it if many of your prices are still guesses or the route is long.

Is lodging per person or for the group?

For the whole group: enter the nightly cost of all rooms together. Every other cost is per person and multiplied by travellers.

Does it know current prices?

No. It has no built-in prices and looks nothing up, so check fares, rooms and fees with the airline, lodging, insurer and official visa pages.
